WordPress Developer

Carenetic is looking for a skilled WordPress Developer to join our team. You'll build, maintain, and optimize websites for multi-location healthcare groups, working across new builds, support tickets, and platform-level architecture.

What You'll Love About This Role

  • Depth. You won't just build themes. You'll work on multisite architecture, custom integrations, performance optimization, and accessibility remediation across large portfolios.
  • Ownership. You'll own your work from implementation through QA. We trust our developers to make technical decisions and ship quality code.
  • Variety. One day you're building a new location page template, the next you're debugging a plugin conflict or integrating a scheduling API. No two weeks look the same.
  • Flexibility. Fully remote with a flexible schedule. We care about output, not hours logged.
  • Purpose. The websites you build directly help patients find care. Your code has real-world impact on healthcare access.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain WordPress websites for multi-location healthcare groups, including custom themes, plugins, and page templates
  • Resolve support tickets involving bug fixes, plugin conflicts, content updates, and template modifications
  • Implement responsive, accessible, and performant front-end code (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
  • Develop and maintain WordPress multisite installations and shared component libraries
  • Integrate third-party systems including CRMs, scheduling platforms, and analytics tools
  • Optimize site performance including Core Web Vitals, image optimization, and caching strategies
  • Conduct code reviews and maintain development standards across projects
  • Collaborate with project managers, designers, and client success managers to deliver on time and on spec
  • Document technical decisions and maintain development workflows

Required Skills

  • 3+ years of professional WordPress development experience
  • Strong proficiency in PHP, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Experience building custom WordPress themes and plugins from scratch
  • Solid understanding of WordPress multisite, custom post types, taxonomies, and the REST API
  • Experience with responsive design, cross-browser testing, and mobile-first development
  • Familiarity with WCAG accessibility standards and implementing accessible markup
  • Comfort with Git-based version control and deployment workflows
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently, manage your own time, and communicate clearly in a remote environment

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Advanced Custom Fields (ACF), Gravity Forms, or similar WordPress plugins
  • Familiarity with headless WordPress or decoupled architectures
  • Experience with build tools (Webpack, Vite) and modern JavaScript frameworks
  • Knowledge of healthcare-specific requirements (HIPAA, accessibility compliance, scheduling integrations)
  • Experience working in an agency environment with multiple concurrent projects
  • Familiarity with managed WordPress hosting platforms (WP Engine, Rocket.net)

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive salary
  • Employer-paid health insurance plan with vision and dental options
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company match
  • Generous PTO policy including the week between Christmas and New Year's
  • Company-issued hardware
